ABB innovates with hydrogen ship

A pioneering energy leader, the multinational company ABB, which is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, has developed a sustainable solution for river vessels to operate on the basis of hydrogen. Based on fuel cells, the organization managed to innovate with a solution of propulsion and energy, which would be able to potentialize the river transport in the region.

The material created was made to be installed on a ship that transits the Rhône river, which is born in France and ends in Switzerland. Headquartered in France, the company Compagnie Fluviale de Transport (CFT) that wants to potentialize the river pathways, has been thinking sustainably in recent years and will use the vessel to contribute to Flagships.

Flagships is a European Union-funded initiative that plans to deploy zero-emission vessels to carry out maritime operations and commercial navigation.

According to ABB, the transport of marine resources would be responsible for about 940 million tons of carbonic gas emitted each year. Therefore, the alternative could positively contribute in the future because the fuel would be converted directly into electricity, heat and water.
