Located in Angra dos Reis, its composition is made by the already in operation Angra 1 and 2 and by the in construction Angra 3. The power of the new plant will be 1,405 megawatts (MW) and its area corresponds to about ten football fields. It is expected to start at the end of 2026.
Cláudio Maia, president of Tractebel in Latin America, claimed that Angra 3 will be important to avoid the risk of a new blackout in the country. According to him, because it is a plant very close to the national consumer center, "it will have fundamental importance to mitigate future climate issues of drought, which put pressure on reservoirs."
