Tax increases on gasoline

Entered into force on Friday, July 21, the rates of PIS/Cofins, which readjusts in the taxes on fuel. According to information from the federal Government, an increase in the tribute is intended to cover a dent in public revenues and avoid a review on RS 139 billion deficit this year.

However, with the new tax, the value of fuels will rise in the final price to the consumer. Gasoline, for example, will increase in the incidence of tax R $0.38 R $0.89 per litre. If high taxes is passed on in full to consumers, the liter of gasoline should be R $0.41 more expensive in the country.

Already the diesel and ethanol will rise to R $0.21 and R $0.19, respectively, per litre. In this way, the diesel will increase in R $0.46 per litre of fuel. Not to mention that Petrobras, which now has new pricing policy which provides for frequent changes in share price, reported high in the price of gasoline at 1.4% and 0.2% in diesel at refineries. What can make even more the value of fuels.

As the brazilian legislation guarantees freedom of market prices of fuels and derivatives, the revisions made to the refineries may or may not reflect the final price to the consumer. The decision with respect to the tax increase will depend on the fuel distributors.
