The growing interest in bringing renewable energy sources to the electricity grid is accompanied by concerns about the quality and variability of supply. Renewables are subject to fluctuations in production. Various solutions are being investigated and the Tohoku Electric has decided to use the H2One ™ of Toshiba in March 2017.
"We're very thrilled we are involved in this project", said Mr. Hiroyuki Ota, General Manager of power Systems company and Toshiba's Solutions. "A good mix of energy sources will contribute to the security and sustainability of energy, and the introduction of renewables and hydrogen in this mixture will help achieve the crucial goal of a low carbon future. Hydrogen offers an innovative approach to energy without emissions and we want to promote broad acceptance of hydrogen solutions. "
Advanced environmental management system from Toshiba provides data on the balance of supply and demand for renewable energy, which could be used to stabilize the production of electricity. Over the two years of the project, the Tohoku Electric is going to monitor the viability of energy storage system for hydrogen as a solution to the compensation for energy production fluctuations caused by an expansion of renewables.
Toshiba is committed to advance progress towards a low-carbon hydrogen economy to extend the use of hydrogen in various areas.
