One of the world's greatest discoveries in the last decade, the pre-salt is one of the most precious treasures among Brazil's main riches. In this treasure, it is contained a capacity to generate billions of barrels of oil that are stored under a thick layer of salt beneath a gigantic depth in the ocean.
With Petrobras as the foundation for the development of oil wells exploration, from 2014 to 2018, pre-salt production triated, from 500,000 barrels of oil per day (2014) to 1.5 million barrels of oil per day (2018).
This highly significant growth represents a milestone in the national oil and gas industry, given that the fields are situated in deep, ultra-deep waters. And it is mainly due to the increased productivity of the pre-salt operating areas concomitantly with the technological and scientific advances that have boosted the development of the exploration processes and production of the layers in the sector.
Riches on the seabed
The volume produced by well in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin is far above the average of the oil and gas industry. It's about 25000 barrels of oil a day on average. Of the ten wells with the highest production in Brazil, nine are located in this area. The most productive of them is in the field of Lula, with average daily flow of 36000 barrels of oil per day. Libra, one of the largest and most promising oil and gas production projects already developed by the offshore industry, presents reservoirs that are among the most productive in the world, with oil columns that reach 400 meters thick-the equivalent of Sugar Loaf.
