The Laguna Plant, located in Batayporã (Mato Grosso do Sul), will receive R$ 80.2 million of financing approved by the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) for renewable energy generation. The value will also be intended for expansion of storage capacity and grinding potential. in addition to investments in the increase and renewal of sugarcane.
With the investment, the site will have the capacity to produce 30 megawatts (MW), in addition to expanding the capacity of sugarcane milling to up to 1.5 million tons/year and ethanol storage from 30,000 to 50,000 cubic meters, in addition to increasing the cogeneration capacity from sugarcane bagasse.
Part of the value will also go to the renovation and expansion of 2,970 hectares of sugarcane. The expectation is that the energy generated will be made available in the national integrated electricity system in 2022.
In addition, the plant currently employs about 660 employees – mostly residents of the municipality, which has just over 11,000 inhabitants. With the financing, the forecast is to hire 81 new workers, totaling 741 in the unit.
