Committee to monitor new gas market is born

The government has created the Committee to monitor the opening of the gas market. The decree signed by the president, Jair Bolsonaro, aims to encourage competitiveness in the natural gas market.

The Committee will exist until 2021, and may prolong its date if the need is proven. The group contains members of the Ministry of Mines and Energy (which is coordinator of the works), the Civil House, the Ministry of Economics, the ANP regulator (National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and biofuels), the Energy research Company (EPE), in addition of the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade).

The plan that will deal with the sale of gas distribution and transportation assets by Petrobras and incentives to privatizations, also aims to reduce gas prices. “The measures can contribute to a 40% reduction in the price of energy in the country in less than two years,” says Paulo Guedes, Minister of Economics.
