With the prospect of increased production of gas in the pre-salt fields, Brazil could become one of the largest exporters of gas from 2021, as recent statement of the Minister of mines and energy, Fernando Bezerra Coelho Son.
If this really happens, the Brazil may reduce the natural gas contract with Bolivia, which expires in 2019. To give body to the facts, the Minister stated that half of the gas Brazil imports from Bolivia will be produced in the field of sugar loaf, about 15 million cubic meters of gas. The idea, according to the Minister, is that the country can be self-sufficient in gas and, from then on, export it.
