Bulgaria and Serbia sign gas agreement

Bulgaria's Energy Minister, Temenuzhka Petkova and Energy Minister from Serbia, Aleksandar Antic, signed a memorandum of understanding on building a gas interconnector between the two countries.

According to the Ministry of energy of Bulgaria, the countries pledged to begin construction of the designing until may 2019, to start operations in 2020. The first phase of the interconnection with Serbia ended in 2015, with funding from the European Union. The second phase must be performed through the operational programme for innovation and Competitiveness.

The initiative in building gas connections with neighbors, after a crisis of heating in cold winter of 2009, in Bulgaria. However, only the link with Romania was completed.
