House approves MP that allows privatization of Eletrobras

The House of Representatives approved last Thursday night (19), Provisional Measure 1031/21, which allows the privatization of Eletrobras. The company, which is linked to the Ministry of Mines and Energy, accounts for 30% of the energy generated in Brazil and is currently the company that practices the lowest prices in the energy generation market.

The MP now heads to the Senate, which should review it soon. It is worth remembering that the MP expires on June 22. It is important to note that, according to some opposition parliamentarians, the sale of Eletrobras may bring an increase in electricity bills.

This denationalization model provides for the issuance of new eletrobras shares, which will be sold on the market without the company's participation, which will result in loss of voting share control currently held by the Union.
