Cemig announces interest in extending two concessions

Cemig Geração e Transmissão (Cemig GT) filed its interest in the extension of concessions of the Emborcação and Nova Ponte hydroelectric plants, under the independent production regime, outside the quota regime.

The Emborcação plant is located on the Parnaíba River, has an installed capacity of 1,192 MW, and the Nova Ponte, on the Araguari River, has a power of 510 MW. The concessions expire in July 2025.

The state, which claimed that the initiative aims to ensure its right of choice in the face of changes in legislation with the modernization of the electricity sector, also stressed that any effective decision will be made only after disclosure by the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) and the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) of the conditions for the extension, which will be submitted to the company's governance bodies.
