Chevron secures Australia offshore exploration license

Chevron has paid $ 2.3 million to buy an area of Western Australia, thereby securing exploration rights there for the next six years, according to information from the Australian Government’s Department of Industry, Innovation and Science.

The only bid received for the W16-17 release area, located in the Exmouth Plateau, northern Carnarvon basin was that of Chevron. No proposals were received on the release areas W16-22 and W16-25, located in the Dampier subbasin of the North Carnarvon Basin and in the Exmouth sub-basin, respectively.
