Oil cities in Rio face difficulties

The oil royalties enabled a phase of great financial prosperity in the cities of the Lakes Region, in the north of Rio de Janeiro, such as Maricá, Macaé and Campos dos Goytacazes. But recently, with Petrobras' plans to devestite and the crisis caused by Covid-19, the region is in a wave of difficulties. This situation is reflected in several sectors in cities, for example in trade, which faces adversities as fewer people circulate and spend.
Production in the Campos Basin fell for the first time below the 1 million barrels per day (bpd) mark in 2020. According to the National Agency for Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), in the period from January to September of this year, the drop in oil barrel production by Petrobras was 17%. The state-owned company has been disdoing production areas since 2019, partly from a plan to devestite. Six fields were sold in full and partially two others.
