Italian company dismisses about 2000 employees in Paraná

The Italian multinational Techint dismissed approximately 2000 employees and harmed the economy of the municipality Pontal do Paraná, for being closing the construction of the P-76 platform for Petrobras on the coast of the state. The project began in 2014 and is expected to begin operations in the first quarter of 2019.

At the beginning of the works the company had contracted 5000 people, but as the delivery date approached the number of professionals declined. According to Techint, throughout the construction the company contracted about 9400 direct workers and offered professional training to 1500 employees.

The Italian company, claimed that it invested in social projects and in reforms in the schools of the municipality of Paranaense. For the president of the Commercial Association of Pontal do Paraná (acipar), Gilberto Espinosa, the scenario is not worse because of the expense of the indemnity of the workers who were discharged, but the city is in deplorable state and that lacked investments in Education, health and safety.
