Demand for oil can increase by 2040

The global oil demand could increase 10.8% up to 2040, mainly in the transport sector, according to a study by the Total French oil company.

The study is based on hypotheses, highlights the Total to tint its conclusions, and predicts that the demand of oil in 2040 can increase in 10 million of daily barrels (mbd) in relation to 2015 (92.5 mbd).

The total indicates that the demand will be lowered in the construction sectors (-2 mbd), Energy (-3 mbd) and for non-energetic uses (-1 mbd), but would increase in the transport sector, which in 2015 represented 56% of Total consumption.

According to the study, the demand of oil would increase in 2 mbd in the individual transport, in 6 mbd in the mass transport, in 1 mbd in the transport by boat and in 4 mbd in the transport by plane. Source.
