Eletrobras wants to privatize two more distributors

Eletrobras seeks the privatization of the energy distributors of Amazonas and Alagoas. On Wednesday (14), the Federal Government published two provisional measures that enable the bidding (scheduled to take place on the 27th of this month) or provide conditions for the services to be provided by other companies from next year, if the auction does not Be effectivated.

MP 855 authorizes funds from the electricity sector to cover up to R $3 billion in liabilities of these companies for fuel expenses incurred last year and which did not meet the efficiency criteria established at the time by Aneel (National Energy Agency Electrical). According to experts, the resolution of the liabilities is a strong attraction for those interested in the company Amazonas Energia.

The second MP, 856, determines that aneel must, in parallel, initiate procedures to carry out an auction in other forms, with the aim of hiring companies that will be responsible for the supply of energy in these states, if the privatization of Subsidiaries do not materialize.

This bid would close a contract of up to 24 months with the new entrants for the concessions, but these measures may be suspended in case of success in the sale of distributors of Eletrobras or rescheduling the auction, with date for the first quarter of 2019.
