Geothermal energy is an option for the use of fossil fuels

Geothermal or geothermal energy is obtained through the heat coming from inside the Earth to generate electricity. It is one of the existing clean and renewable energy options, and offers less damage to the environment compared to fossil fuels.

There are different ways to take advantage of this natural source, which can be obtained directly through soil heat, without requiring production in power plants, or indirectly, when heat is sent to an industry that transforms it into electricity.

Through pipes, the steam from these sources is taken to a geothermal plant, which uses generators to turn steam into electricity. This energy can be used in heating residential areas during winter, for example, or in heaters and thermal appliances of greenhouses.

It is worth remembering that the main difference from geothermal for fossil fuels is that the former does not use fuel burning, which significantly reduces the amount of pollutants released into the atmosphere. In Brazil, there are two cities that make use of this energy in order to encourage tourism through leisure areas. This is the case of the cities of Poços de Caldas (MG) and Caldas Novas (GO), which have naturally heated waters by the geothermal process between the contact of groundwater with underground rocks of high temperatures.
