Renewable energy: ICMS exemption PL advances

Last Thursday (5), the Financial and Budgetary Surveillance Commission of the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais (ALMG) approved assent to the bill granting exemption of ICMS to users of "qualified cogeneration energy or use of renewable sources".

Authored by Mr Gil Pereira (PSD), PL No. 4,054/17 provides for a reduction to up to 0% of the ICMS related to the energy supplied by the distributor to the consumer unit of the electricity compensation system. The benefit will occur in a quantity corresponding to energy from "qualified cogeneration" or from the use of renewable sources, and previously injected into the grid by the same unit or per unit of the same ownership. Equipment, parts, parts and components are also exempt.

The project aims to link the tax benefit for photovoltaic solar energy and for qualified cogeneration energy or the use of renewable energy sources. The granting of the tax exemption will depend on the authorization in an agreement concluded and ratified by the states and the Federal District, within the framework of the National Council for Business Policy (Confaz).
