One of the cleanest areas in the southern end of Chile and with a full marine ecosystem, named as Guarello Island, was struck by a leak of about 40,000 liters of oil. According to local authorities, the accident occurred at a terminal on an island in Patagonia, during a procedure of one of the most important mining companies in the country, CAP.
With the intention of controlling and decreasing the leak, the third Naval zone will send its vessels to the region. In addition, the Chilean government will investigate the causes of the spill and its respective guardians.
