Equinor and Modec plan the largest Brazilian FPSO

Last Thursday (30), Norwegian oil company Equinor reported that it hired Modec to provide fpso (floating unit of production, storage and transfer) that will be used for the production of cod field, in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin.

This will be the largest platform to operate in Brazil with a production capacity of 220,000 bpd of oil and 15 million m³/day natural gas. Carcará field was the first major asset in the pre-salt area to be sold by Petrobras in 2016. The state sold its 66% stake for $2.5 billion to Equinor.

The Executive Vice President of Development and Production of Equinor Brasil, Margareth Øvrum, spoke about hiring: “Cod is a world-class assets in Brazilian pre-salt. Brazil is a central area of growth for Equinor and the company has the ambition to produce from 300 to 500 1,000 barrels per day in Brazil by 2030. Cod will be an important contributor to achieve this goal.”
