Even in crisis, P&G industry signals good winds

Recently, the Brazilian Institute of Petroleum, Gas and biofuels (IBP) and Ernst & Young – or simply EY – carried out the study “the relevance of oil and gas in Brazil”, which explains the value of the P&G industry nationwide.

The study shows how the offshore sector is responsible for moving the economy at various levels: it is in charge of much of the energy consumption, besides being a base element of several products – from fuels and lubricants to everyday products, as Cosmetics, paints and accessories.

In addition, the research cites the oil and gas industry as a strong producer of high-remuneration jobs in the market, and despite the concusses suffered in the crisis between 2015 and 2016, the sector has sought to stabilize. Factors such as the resumption of auctions, the recent negotiations of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to rebalance the market that suffered from excessive production, as well as the announcement of Petrobras investments for the coming years, already leave Positive projections. In this way, the oil sector promises once again to attract new jobs.

In the ecological sphere, the Brazilian offshore has also been moving to do its part: The study shows that the oil industry will be a major influator in the change of the energy matrix to renewable sources. An example of this was the 29th generation A-4 auction, carried out by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), which aimed to be an auction exclusively of renewable sources.

Still on the renewable issue, the executive director of IEA, Fatih Birol, stated in the launch interview of the IEA’s Renewable Energy market report: “Brazil is the rising star in the sustainable use of energy. The huge share of renewables in the Brazilian energy matrix is a source of inspiration for many countries around the world. ”
