ExxonMobil and the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) announced a major breakthrough on the scale of complex simulation models of oil and gas reservoirs to improve the results of exploration and production.
ExxonMobil Scientists worked in the NCSA Blue Waters supercomputer. This work resulted in much faster simulation capacity of reservoirs of oil and natural gas.
The new capacity of reservoir simulation helps geoscientists and engineers from ExxonMobil to make better investment decisions through the prediction of performance of reservoir geological uncertainty to assess the largest volume of alternative development plans within a short period of time.
These reservoir simulation studies help to make decisions about the placement of wells, installation of projects and development of operational strategies to reduce the financial and environmental risk.
