Fraud in fuel sales in RJ and MG

With the rise in gasoline prices in recent months, fraudulent practices began to be discovered in the states of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro. Companies in the fuel distribution segment began to simulate the sale of the product to gas stations in Minas Gerais, where the ICMS rate is 25% – however, they sell gasoline in Rio de Janeiro, where the rate is 31%.

Thus, these companies can gain an advantage in the sales of fuels, which would supposedly be bought by mining establishments for stations located in Rio at lower prices. Sources claim that there are about 100 posts in the scheme and officials who have embraced the irregular practice to hit targets.

It is worth remembering that this is not an unprecedented action. Investigations by the National Petroleum Agency (ANP), the Federal Police and the Federal Prosecutor's Office in the 2000s resulted in the discovery of the operation "Mineirinha", where a tax evasion system was detected.
