Solar power generation hits 6 gigawatt mark

According to the Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy (Absolar), the distributed solar generation in Brazil has just reached the mark of 6 gigawatts (GW) of installed power. The country now has more than 518,000 photovoltaic solar systems connected to the grid, and the solar segment has accumulated R$ 30.6 billion in investments since 2012.

Also according to Absolar, photovoltaic solar energy is present in more than 5,300 municipalities in all Brazilian states. Of these, the largest volumes are installed in homes, which have 40.7% of the installed power in the country, followed by companies in the trade and services sectors (36.6%), rural consumers (13.2%), industries (8.3%), government (1.1%) and other types, such as public services (0.1%) and street lighting (0.02%).
