Marathon Petroleum announces the closure of refineries

Two Marathon Petroleum oil refineries, located respectively in California, in the United States; and in Gallup, New Mexico, must be permanently closed by the company. According to the company, about 800 employees should be fired. Also according to Marathon, the reason for the closure of refineries would be the low demand for fuels.

It is worth remembering that the American refinery was already with two unused facilities as a result of the low demand caused by the pandemic covid-19 in the country. In more, U.S. refineries were left with an average of 20% of the total unused processing capacity.

The loss per action is expected to be announced on Monday (03) by the company. However, so far, company spokespersons have not yet responded to the request made by Reuters on the cost of closing the Units.
