Maia sets deadline to decide oil CPI

The speaker of the House of Representatives, Rodrigo Maia, said he will decide until Monday (4) on the installation of a Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry (CPI) focusing on the oil leak in the Northeast.

The CPI request was made by Congressman João H. Campos (PSB-PE) and presented last week to the General Secretariat of the House Bureau with the signature of 250 deputies.

For Maia, it is important that the commission has an agenda and that analyse environmental problems in a new way, as they’ve been happening recurrently, like the recent fires in the Amazon.

With the increase in areas affected by oil, Defense Minister Fernando Azevedo admitted this week that stains can reach the Southeast region. In addition, the navy said that the most likely cause of the accident is a spill caused by some vessel that sailed along the country’s coast, and that there is no indication of leakage at the bottom of the ocean.
