The Minister Alexandre de Moraes (STF), validated this last Tuesday (17), the agreement that aims R $1 billion from the Petrobras fund to fight the fires in the Amazon and R $1.6 billion for education. This money would result from a Petrobras agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice to allocate a portion of the fine to shares in Brazilian territory.
Of these R $1 billion, a parcel would go to the Legal Amazon and another parcel (R $430 million) would be reserved for nearby regions, since there are many areas suffering from deforestation and fires. In this way, the resources will be distributed in different ways and according to some criteria: territorial area of States, estimated population, GDP and etc.
The Attorney General of the Republic, Raquel Dodge, affirms the need for these resources for the area: "The defense of the Amazon, which is a Brazilian heritage, is very important, and it now has resources that will go to the area of agriculture, for technical assistance, For land regularization, for prevention of fires and also for forest regeneration "
The agreement had already been made week before the attorney general's Office, the Chamber of Deputies and the Palácio do Planalto, but still depended on the approval of the STF.
