MME postpones electric power auctions

The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) announced the indefinite postponement of the auctions of electricity generation and transmission, given the current pandemic experienced in the country. The announcement was made last Monday (30), in the Official Gazette.

In a statement, the ministry stressed that the auctions will be resumed as soon as the health situation in the country is normalized; therefore, the measure is not about cancellation, but rather postponement. In moreover, the postponement includes auctions to meet the National Interconnected System (SIN) and also the so-called isolated systems. The ordinance also cites existing Energy Auctions A-4 and A-5, the new Energy Auction A-4 and A-6, transmission auctions and auctions for supply of isolated systems.

"It is well known that Brazil is in a state of public health emergency due to human infection by the new coronavirus (Covid-19), classified as a pandemic by the World Health Organization," the folder said.
