The 18th turbine of the Belo Monte Plant, located in Vitória xingu, in Pará, went into operation last Wednesday (27), inaugurating complete the project. The hydroelectric plant now occupies the position of fourth world with 11,233.1 MW (megawatts) of electrical generation, enough to supply about 60 million people.
Among those present at the inauguration ceremony were the President Jair Bolsonaro and the Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, who talked about the benefits of the project. "The investments made for the implementation of Belo Monte moved the local and national economy. We will continue to work together with other ministries, states, municipalities and bodies involved to build new hydroelectric plants, which, such as of this, bring safety to the electrical system, clean energy, cheap and to ensure regional and national development," the minister announced.
The construction of Belo Monte was started in 2011 after an agreement between Ibama (Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources) and the Concessionaire Norte Energia, and the first turbine was inaugurated in 2016.
