New Gas Law: House approves project urgency

The House of Representatives approved, on Wednesday (29), an urgent request to speed up the processing of the "New Gas Law", which changes the rules of the natural gas market. There were 323 votes in favour, 113 against and there was also one abstention.

The approval allows the inclusion of the project in the agenda at any time. However, according to the mayor, Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ), the vote should not take place for at least two weeks.

The project, besides having the objective of cheapening the cost of gas, also reducing the price of electricity, allows the construction of pipelines by the authorization regime and no longer concession. Thus, the company that wants to build a pipeline should only ask permission for the National Agency for Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP). The text also allows free competition in the sector, opening the market for foreign investment.
