New rules on fuel price adjustments may be submitted by the end of September
New proposals for the prohibition of prior disclosure of fuel price adjustments in the country will be debated by the end of September. The objective of the implementation of new rules is the transparency of the market, due to the questions after the strike of the truckers, besides also being a result of public consultation made on the frequency of the increases.
According to Decius Oddone, Director-General of the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), the project establishes that companies announce the adjustments only after putting the new prices into practice, that is, the prices will be disclosed by Point of sale and not by national averages.
The rules intend to impose that distributors disclose the prices they practise and will be valid for all fuel producers and importers. In addition, it must determine that the post owners publish their sales prices in the Infopreço system, created last month, so that consumers can choose the cheapest fuel in their region.
The motion for a resolution will be discussed with the sector through a public consultation, which will be initiated by the end of August.
