Pandemic causes natural gas consumption to plummet 25%

According to a recent survey by the Association Distribution Companies of Piped Gas (Abegás), the consumption of natural gas fell 25% in April compared to the previous year. The reason for the fall would be the pandemic of the new coronavirus.

Among the sectors that suffered the most impacts, the automotive, with a drop of 45%; trade, with -42% and industry with -32%. The association points out that this is the lowest consumption of natural gas in the last 15 years. Despite residential segment showed a small increase of 14%.

Abegás also cites a concern about the level of delinquency, which has been growing above average. According to data from the association, of every R$ 100 that distributors receive, on average R$ 83 continue to pay the molecule supply, gas transport and taxes.
