For GAA, oil situation on the coast is stable

According to the operational coordinator of the GAA (Group of Monitoring and Evaluation), Admiral Marcelo Francisco Campos, 19 days ago crude oil stains are found at sea. In addition, the amount of fragments that keep reaching the beaches, mangroves, shores is, proportionally, smaller and smaller.

The group composed of the Navy, the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA) and the Agency National Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) is restructuring monitoring, containment and cleaning of the polluting product, which has already reached the entire coast of the Northeast and beaches of Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro January.

However, the report released by Ibama showed that the number of affected localities does not stop increasing and what traces of the oil have already been 803 points of the coastline. “We have not ruled out the hypothesis that some oil stains that may be deposited in pockets (submerged) outcrop and get to the beaches,” the admiral said. However, he said, the continued increase in number of locations affected is due to the fragmentation of the oil and its dispersion at sea.
