Petrobras bets on exchange of cables for composites

State-owned Petrobras expects that, in the future, the use of composites is sufficient to replace some steel structures in tubes flexible offshore fields. That’s because the exchange would be a facilitator, especially when it comes to the development of numerous areas of pre-salt.

It has been a while since the state considers the use of composites hybrids in risers and rows of catenary flows suspended in the Mero field, located in libra block. For Petrobras engineer Walter Carrara Loureiro, the initiative fits perfectly into several projects of the company – including mero’s own field, which is being used as a prototype test of various types of technologies.

“By using composites in our future projects, we can reach larger depths, have wider tubes and maybe change the whole layout of our submarine systems,” Loureiro reported.
