Petrobras guarantees US $9 billion coming from the onerous assignment

After a dispute of understanding about the contract of the onerous assignment in the pre-salt auction, the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE)-together with the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), Ministry of Economics (ME), National Petroleum Agency, Gas Natural and Biofuels (ANP) and the Union Court of Auditors (TCU), granted the release of US $9 billion to be paid to Petrobras with a forecast for December 13th.

According to the Government’s advice, the amount will be paid directly by the company that wins the bidding, which happens on October 28th of this year, since the current administration of the Country does not have the credit for the payment. The debate on the contract comes from the year 2013 because the contract clauses allowed for dubious and divergent interpretation.

The document signed between the Union and the state government allows minority participation of up to 30% of the consortium in the bidding.
