Petrobras and Cade (Administrative Council for Economic Defense) entered into agreement and will sign a contract this month, in June, for the sale of 50% of the refineries of the state. Currently, the oil company owns 15 refining subsidiaries. The decision was completed after one year of negotiations.
The main goal is to stimulate competition in the free market as a consequence of the break of Petrobras monopoly in the Brazilian oil and gas industry. In order not to happen with the private initiative, Cade will require the company not to pass the refineries located in the same region to the hands of a single private group.
