Rio wants to zero ICMS in the sale of gas for thermal

Rio de Janeiro intends to exempt the tax on the movement of Goods and Services (ICMS) from thermoelectric products that purchase natural gas for power generation in the state. The measure, disclosed by the Secretary of Economic development of Rio, Lucas Tristão, would aim to attract new business already from the next energy auction, the A-6, which will take place on October 17th.

According to the secretary, the tax exemption would be prepared by Governor Wilson Witzel (PSC), who is still not sure whether he can announce it by decree or will need the approval of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (ALERJ). The measure would be positive in order to attract new ventures to the state.

The Energy research Company (EPE), a public organization linked to the Ministry of Mines and Energy, has already registered and must also enable a record number of projects to participate in the A-6 auction. According to the EPE disclosure, the list consisted of 52 registered thermoelectric power plants, 13 of them only in Rio de Janeiro.
