Brazilian stadiums make use of solar energy

The modern architectures of football stadiums are spaces that tend to impress by the grandeur of construction, but also generate criticism for the high cost they produce. However, with the growing adherence of clean energy in the market, a viable alternative to the reduction of expenditures and incentive to sustainability, is the transformation of electricity into solar, especially in Brazil, characterized as "tropical country". In the country, four stadiums already make use of the energy from the sun.

The infrastructures of modern stadiums around the world have favorable characteristics for the use of technology, among them, sufficient space for the installation of solar panels. Moreover, due to its high structure, they are usually high enough to make use of wind turbines and also generate energy from the winds.

In Brazil, despite being symbolic quantity, four stadiums already make use of the solar power source with photovoltaic panels. Check out what they are:

Pituaçu
The Governador Roberto Santos Stadium in Salvador (BA) was the first in Latin America to have a solar power system, installed in 2012, with 2,292 photovoltaic modules capable of generating 630 megawatts-hour/year of energy.

Pernambuco Arena
The solar power plant of the Recife Stadium (PE) was the first of its kind to be installed in the state at the end of 2013. It has 3,652 solar panels capable of generating 1,500 megawatts-hour of energy per year, equivalent to 30% of the consumption of the stadium.

Maracanã
The Carioca Stadium received in 2014, Year of World Cup, a system with 1,552 solar panels, covering an area of 2,380 m² and that are capable of generating 500 megawatts-hour of energy per year.

Mineirão
The stadium located in Belo Horizonte (MG), also won in 2014 its solar power system, with 6000 solar panels capable of generating up to 1,420 kilowatts-peak energy and covering 9,500 m² of its coverage.
