Seven areas in Bahia can be excluded from the 16th Round of Bidding

The 16th Round of Bidding is scheduled to take place in October, passes through impasses. The Senate Environment Committee filed a preliminary restraining order in the Federal Court for the withdrawal of seven areas foreseen in the tender notice of the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP) auction. The areas covered are in the National Marine Park of Abrolho, Bahia.

According to information from the Estado de S. Paulo Newspaper, Ibama's president, Eduardo Fortunato Bim, would have ignored and contradicted data that found that exploration in the region could be harmful to the environment, contradicting the Institute's own concept. The coordinator of the 4th Chamber of Environment and Cultural Heritage of the Federal prosecutor's Office, Nívio de Freitas Silva, will request information about the reports prepared to make appropriate judicial decisions.
