Shell to close Brent oil wells by 2020
Oil company Shell recently announced that by 2020 it will close its latest Standard Brent oil wells in operation in the North Sea. The decision to close this oil and natural gas field, considered the most famous in the world and located in the East Shetland Basin, was taken because the wells dried up.
The decision represents the end of an era, as the oil industry has bet on smaller oil fields and more affordable infrastructure. In addition, many companies are also closing platforms mounted in regions with large oil fields discovered.
Finally, the Brent field generated billions of dollars for Shell, partner Exxon Mobil, and for the UK government.
