Shell is interested in new natural gas projects in Brazil

The president of Shell in Brazil, André Araujo, said on Tuesday (20) that the company has an interest in new projects of natural gas in the country. Last year, the company entered the Brazilian gas generation market, as a member of the consortium that scooped the thermoelectric Valley Blue II (466 megawatts) in Macaé (RJ) at the new energy auction A-Dec 6.

"We are interested. Natural gas is strategic for the group, "said the executive to journalists, after participating in the UK Energy event, promoted by the British Consulate in Rio.

According to Araujo, Shell today has an internal team for evaluating gas monetization projects. In addition to thermoelectric projects, the company evaluates other forms of monetization, such as the sale of gas to distributors.

"We look at different alternatives. We have a relationship with the distributors. We talked to them. It is not new, but we always follow, "he said.

According to Araujo, the company still has "a lot of appetite" for Brazil and evaluates the opportunities of the 15th round of exploration blocks concessions next week. "We have a focused team working hard," said the executive. "We have a lot of appetite for Brazil, but it has projects all over the world," he said, when asked whether the company maintains interest in the country, even after the active participation of the oil in the last auction of Mexico.

Araujo also stated that investment decisions in the Brazilian market will respect capital discipline. According to him, Brazil needs to maintain its competitiveness in the face of other countries, which compete for investment allocation.
