Social tariff program must undergo changes

The House approved the Bill that automatically includes CadÚnico enrollees in the Social Electric Energy Tariff program. The program, which currently serves about 11 million homes, offers a discount of up to 65% on the energy bill (the amount dejected varies according to the consumption rate). The authorization of the text that follows for face-to-face sanction will enable more beneficiaries, since it would dispense with the need for request through the consumer.

Some senators tried to extend the program to residents of housing developments, but deputies rejected the proposal, as the measure would compromise the focus of the program and cause a large cost increase. "The social energy tariff program is funded by cross-subsidies, and this could cost energy tariffs," said Congressman Léo Moraes (Pode-RO).
