Lula's field will be renamed Tupi, says Petrobras

After a determination by the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), Petrobras reported that Brazil's largest oil and natural gas producer, the Lula Field, will be called Tupi.

The change is to meet a court decision that determined that the oil company should rename the asset, located in the Santos Basin, and was confirmed in June by the Federal Regional Court of the 4th Region (TRF-4). Therefore, all records of the names referenced as "Lula" must be changed.

According to ANP data, the field, which was discovered in 2006 during the government of former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, produced 988,000 barrels per day in July, while natural gas production averaged 43,200 cubic meters per day in the period.
