Thermoelectric Marlim Azul will have investments of US $700 million

Through the joint venture, Shell, Patria Investimentos and Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) will invest US $700 million in the construction and operation of the Marlim Azul gas thermoelectric plant in Macaé, Rio de Janeiro. The plant will enter into operation in the year 2022 and generate additional energy to be sold in the free market.

The company will have responsibility for the development of the plant and the commercialization of energy in the captive market or in the energy-free contracting (ACL) through Shell energy Brasil S.A.  The consortium will be 50.1% for Patria Investimentos, 29.9% for Shell and 20% for Mitsubishi.

This negotiation took place at the energy auction carried out by the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) in December 2017. The plant has a capacity of 565 megawatts and marks the start of Shell in the electric sector in Brazil.
