Why does LPG suffer price variation?

A major concern for the pocket of Brazilians today is the price of cooking gas. In 2019 alone, LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) had five price variations, including four increases and one adjustment.

According to a survey carried out by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), also released in the last year, the variation in the price of canisters has affected the way food is prepared. The analysis shows that more than 3 million Brazilians have chosen to use firewood or charcoal to cook, instead of cooking gas.

One of the reasons for the increase in the cylinder, according to experts, is the change in Petrobras' pricing policy, which leaves the oil market freer. Thus, products derived from petroleum, such as gasoline, diesel and gas depend on the international market price balance. Thus, the Brazilian currency depreciates in comparison to the international quotation, which directly affects the value of the gas cylinder.
