Argentina resumes gas exports to Brazil

Argentina announced that it will resume gas exports to Brazil this week. The goal is to supply the Uruguaiana thermal power plant, located in Rio Grande do Sul.

The plant, which has been inoperable since 2015, was bought last year by Argentine company Saesa from U.S.-based AES, and is preparing to return to business. With the resumption of operations, about 2.4 million cubic meters per day in gas should be exported to Brazil.

However, the Argentine government said in a statement that it will make the operation, provided that the gas in question is not needed to meet national demand.
