With the prospect of increased gas production in the pre-salt fields, Brazil could become an exporter of gas from 2021, according to a recent statement of the Mines and Energy Minister Fernando Bezerra Coelho Filho.
If this increase does occur, Brazil may reduce natural gas contract it has with Bolivia, which expires in 2019. To give substance to the facts, the minister said that half of the gas that today Brazil imports from Bolivia will be produced in Sugar Loaf field, about 15 million cubic meters of gas. The idea, according to the minister, is that the country might turn out to be self-sufficient in gas and, from then export it.
