The Government of Mato Grosso do Sul met on Thursday, March 23, with Petrobras leaders to seek solutions to overcome the gas crisis in the state. The rulers seek an agreement to stabilize the income Tax on Goods and Services (ICMS) on the Bolivian gas, since the state suspended the Bolivian natural gas pumping passing through Mato Grosso do Sul, generating a drop of 62.9 % in the collection of the natural gas VAT, in January this year.
At the meeting, it was decided that Petrobras will seek a legal basis equation to give the proposal presented by the governor Reinaldo Azambuja of Mato Grosso do Sul, in anticipation of ICMS payment of the contractual period imports of Bolivian natural gas, which ends in 2019.
According to data reported at the meeting, Petrobras would have to go over R $ 2.8 billion to Mato Grosso do Sul, as ICMS. The meeting also decided that technical legal and tax areas of the state and Petrobras will be meeting soon to formulate the understanding eliminating possible obstacles.
