New president of Petrobras approaches privatization of State

The presidency of Petrobras will be assumed by Roberto Castello Branco – by appointment of Paulo Guedes – in the next government. The information was confirmed by the advice of the future minister of Economics. In his career, Castello Branco has acted in front of the Central Bank and Vale.

The future president of Petrobras was part of the body of specialists who formulated economic proposals of a liberal character for the Presidentiable during the electoral campaign period. The appointment of Castello Branco gives indications to a solemn opening of doors to the entry of the policy agenda of privatization of the State.

Jair Bolsonaro, President-elect, already gives up positions to the chosen names to compose the scenario of his government. Currently, the state is in charge of Ivan Monteiro, and should be assumed by Castello Branco only in 2019, when Bolsonaro will take possession of the presidency of the Republic.

Castello Branco, who is graduated from the University of Chicago – as well as Paulo Guedes – has also held management positions at the Central Bank and mining company Vale. Besides having already acted as a member of the board of Directors of Petrobras between 2015 and 2016. Today, he holds the position of Director of FGV (Fundação Getúlio Vargas).
