After the fires in the Amazon region, Brazil may be experiencing a new environmental crisis. This week, Ibama (Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable natural resources) updated the framework of the localities affected by oil leakage in the northeast coast: now there are 138 areas, more than 60 municipalities and 9 affected States.
"It is a very strange phenomenon that does not give signs of being "said the president of Petrobras, Roberto Castello Branco, in the Public hearing in the House of Deputies. So far the state has collected 133 Tons of waste in different states and continues to seek to minimise the Impacts caused by oil spill in the region.
Petrobras technicians point to Venezuela as the most probable source, according to the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo. Another speculation that researchers consider is that oil has been illegally dumped into the sea by a ship. President Jair Bolsonaro highlighted this week that the oil may have come from a criminal act.
